By Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria’s first gold medalist at the 2019 African Games, in Rabat Morocco, Chinazum Nwosu, is set to return to the fighting arena after confirming her participation at the forthcoming Kebbi Opens, which is scheduled to hold between 9 – 11 November in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
At the last African Games held at the Moulay Abdallah Indoor Hall in Rabat, Morocco, Nwosu defeated hosts and Africa’s number one at the time, Morocco’s Wafae El Atri 26 – 22 to clinch the first gold medal for Team Nigeria.
With the focus turned towards the Olympic qualifiers in February 2020, the newly crowned African Champion who is employed by and competes for the NSCDC will be looking to maintain her fine form over the next three months to stand a chance of clinching the Olympic ticket.
The event, which has an NTF-D national ranking, will be the last nationally ranked event before the highly anticipated season ending best-of-the-best championships in December.
The event is being organized by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation in conjunction with the Kebbi State Taekwondo Association.
