Nigeria Successes in Sports is Accidental...... Hon. Yakubu Dogara By Niyi Busari Speaker, House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, RT. Hon. Yakubu Dogara on Tuesday said successes Nigeria have recorded in sports in the past seem to be accidental or once-in-a-while occurrences. According to him, the sports sector which has great potentials to catalyse giants strides in the country's development efforts, but has remained in the doldrums. Dogara stated the reasons why Nigeria sports sector has not been doing well. He cited inefficient administration and policy implementation as the two major reasons why the sports sector takes the back seat. RT. Hon. Yakubu Dogara made this known in his keynote address on Tuesday at the National Stakeholders' Summit, titled; "Growing Nigeria Sports From Grassroots For Championship Excellence and Sustainable Development". The event which was held in Nicon Luxury hotels Abuja. He also stated that the sector the management failure is responsible for the lingering NFF leadership crisis. The keynote reads in parts; " However, our successes (in sports) seem to be accidental or once-in-a-while occurrences. The reasons for this is not far-fetched, and they have to do with the issues of inefficient administration and policy implementation... " "..why is our sports still at its epileptic state without any significant contributions to our economic development? Certainly, there is management failure in the sector. For instance, the lingering crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is totally uncalled for. It is a war of attrition that is doing no one any good."
