Nigeria tackle Cameroon in 2019 Women's World Cup qualifier By Amaechi Agbo The Super Falcons of Nigeria will this afternoon tackle the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup qualifier. The match which holds in a neutral ground in Ghana, will decide which of the teams will pick one of the three tickets available for CAF slot in the Women World Cup to be hosted by France next year. Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa and Mali are in contention for the three tickets. The four countries reached the qualifying stage by their virtue of reaching the semi final stage of the African Women Cup of Nations, AWCON ongoing in Ghana. Should Super Falcons lose against Cameroon, they will play against the loser in the second match involving South Africa and Mali. Beyond the the tickets to France 2019 World Cup, the winners of the two matches will slug it out in the finals of the Ghana 2018 AWCON to determine the queens of African football. Super Falcons are the AWCON defending champions and number one ranked team in Africa but the Thomas Dennerby-led girls have been unable to dominate beyond Africa in such arenas as the FIFA Women's World Cup or the Olympic Games. The team have been to every World Cup since 1991, but managed just once to finish in the top eight. In 2003 , the Super Falcons turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the first round, failing to score a single goal and losing all three Group A matches. They did little better in 2007 , drawing only one of their Group B matches. However, they faced the group of death in both 2003 and 2007, grouped both times with rising Asian power North Korea , traditional European power Sweden, and a historic women's superpower in the USA. Apart from reaching the finals of the AWCON championship holding in Ghana, coach Dennerby has said that his priority is to secure a ticket to next year's World Cup. The World Cup qualifying match between Cameroon and Nigeria will be played in Accra Sports Stadium by 4:30pm Nigeria time today.
