Nigeria taekwondo gets first ever constitution, set to pick Nat’l Coaches. By Admin After over three decades, exactly 31 years of existence, the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation (NTF) at the weekend dissected and after thorough deliberation approved a first ever constitution for entire practitioners of the sport. The final adoption of the document which contains the overall working guidelines for the country’s taekwondo community came into effect after 31 persons who were part of its special congress endorsed it in Abuja. While Sani Usman, a representative from Nasarawa state first moved for its acceptance, Judith Williams from Bayelsa state seconded in the presence of a representative from Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC). Both the current NOC and officials of federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development have been in the vanguard of asking all sports federations to ensure harmonisation of a working document that would serve as their official constitution before the next National Sports Federation (NSF) election. In her remarks afterwards, NTF President, Mrs Elizabeth Binga who commended various Stakeholders for their input all the while described the success of the federation’s extra-ordinary congress as historic. Mrs Binga who became first ever female President of NTF after NSF election last year hinted; “the constitution majorly addressed everything that concerns the governance of taekwondo in Nigeria. Talk about elections, competitions, code of conduct for Athletes, technical and administrative officials among other germane issues. Reacting to the latest Development, A representative of World Taekwondo and prominent board member of NTF, Mr Jonathan Nnaji underscored that the present administration of NTF has stood out in all ramifications. Chika Chukwumerije, Technical Director of the federation and the only Nigerian Olympic Taekwondo medallist explained that with the passage of the constitution, a new chapter has been opened in the affairs of the Nigerian Taekwondo. Chukwumerije also disclosed that soon an opening for selection of National coaches would be declared adding, “On the part of the technical committee headed by Alhaji Sani Lawal, we have already agreed to schedule the process of hiring new head coach of our national team by October.” In less than one year, the present NTF administration has held or attended a total of four championships, six coaching and Referee workshops as well as two national training camps.
