Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi will man the post on Wednesday when the Nigeria’s senior national football team confront the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations holding in Egypt.
Eagles dependable right back Shehu Abdullahi however has been ruled out of the Nigeria’s squad for the Wednesday’s quarterfinal match.
Eagles handler Gernot Rohr revealed to
www.adantesports.com.ng on Tuesday night that all the other players were fit and available for selection for the AFCON quarterfinals match but its only Abdullahi that was yet to be 100 percent fit for the match although he has returned to training.
“Daniel (Akpeyi) will continue in post as our first choice goalkeeper because since he plays in South Africa he knows very well South African football. So he will be in goal to help the team with his experience.
“I can also tell you gladly that everybody is fit for tomorrow’s game. Only Shehu (Abdullahi) that is not ready to start. I am also happy to say that there is no suspensions of any of our players for tomorrow’s quarterfinals match.
“So we are confident because we are fit and focus. We enjoy so much the support of Nigerian fans in Alexandra where we have played so far. We believe that they will continue to support us here in Cairo now that we are playing in Cairo. Their support has helped the team a lot so we hope to make them proud”.
