Nigerian footballer making waves in Cyprus, Babajide David Akintola says he is prepared to wait for his chance to feature for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The 24-year-old played a vital role in Omonia winning the Cypriot Championship following the cancellation of the league due to COVID-19 pandemic, and there has been clamour for his invitation to the Super Eagles.
The forward who featured on BCOS TV Sports Program Fans Forum anchored by Boluwaji Ogunmola and produced by Adewale Tijani, however stated that he is not in a hurry to make his first appearance for the three-time African Champions.
Akintola said, “It is my dream to play for the Super Eagles, and I know there’s a lot I can offer the team and anytime I get the opportunity, I will be ready”.
The highly promising forward recalled his first UEFA Champions league match debut while playing for Rosenborg last year.
“It was a great experience, I remember telling my girlfriend after the match that I couldn’t believe that I’m walking on the field and the Champions league anthem is playing because it has been my dream to play in this competition. I’m very happy for the opportunity” Babajide said.
The 24-year-old Babajide enjoyed a successful loan spell with Norwegian side Rosenborg, scoring 5 goals in 11 appearances including UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the Europa league this season, before he moved on loan to Cypriot side Omonia in January 2020.
Since moving to Europe to join FC Midtjylland from Nigeria Nationwide leagues side FC Ebedei in 2014, he had enjoyed successful loan spells with Thisted, Jerv, Haugesund, Rosenborg and now Omonia.
