Nigerian Athletes And Technical Crew Off To Texas For Olympics Qualifiers In Relay Race By Uche Dozie Nigerian athletes and technical crew jetted off to Texas, USA from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for camping and competition ahead of the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports. 16 athletes accompanied by Technical hands headed to the USA for 3 weeks of camping and competitions ahead of the Olympics. The Sport Ministry had opted for the choice of the tour to the US for the Nigerian team instead of the just concluded World Athletics Relays in Selsia, Poland where qualification for the Olympics looked likely to have been secured. However, the ministry believes the team still has the chance to secure tickets to the Olympics with the quality competitions lined up for the team to take some two or three slots depending on the slot of relay events left. Nigeria has quite a task as there are a total of 16 possible slots available for Olympic relay qualification, eight of which were awarded to finalists at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, while finalists from the recently concluded World Relays also secured automatic qualification in the event that would have seemingly been the best way to qualify for Nigeria according to Making Of Champions.com
