Nigerian Journalists Are Corrupt, Lack Expertise, Not Serious.... Gernot Rohr By Niyi Busari Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has taken a swipe on Nigerian journalists in an interview he granted and published in a German newspaper 'Welt'. In the interview he said Nigerian journalists collect 'GIFTS' from agents to write favourable articles about their clients so that they get invited to the national team. He stated further that Nigerian journalists lack expertise unlike their foreign counterparts and need to learn how to carry out their jobs in a professional manner. According to the statement published by WELT newspaper available to www.BSNsports.com.ng, he said: "There is often a lack of expertise. In addition, players and their advisors like to give gift _(bribe)_ to Nigerian journalists to put pressure on the coaching team. Nigeria has a lot of different media but unfortunately, most of them are not serious." Barely six days to the commencement of the 2018 FIFA World cup in Russia, one would have expected Gernot Rohr to focus on how he will see his team perfected ahead of their first match against Croatia on 16th June 2018, but surprisingly he is busy degrading Nigerian journalists who happen to be his number one supporter and fan. He downgraded the hardworking, professional Nigerian media in the presence of their foreign counterparts in Germany. It is a norm all over the world for journalists and the citizens to talk and write about players they believe should be invited to the national but when Rohr tied it to bribery, lack of expertise and not serious makes Nigerian journalists worried despite all they did to support and promote him, regardless of his team recent consistent suboptimal, poor, below par and unpleasant results. Recently, journalists in Brazil question the Brazilian coach about the exclusion of David Luis from the world cup list, in Germany, where he granted the interview, journalists also mount pressure on Joachim Leow for leaving out Leroy Sane of Manchester City out of the world cup list, in Spain, Marco Alonso non inclusion in the world cup list raised dusts, the list is endless. Rohr is advised to remain focus on the task ahead of him in Russia after all, he has never invited any Qatari-based player since he becomes Super Eagles coach. He should not divert Nigerians attention from his poor run of form by this unfounded statement. Nigerian are wiser and smarter than he thinks they are. Fans all over the world are entitled to their opinion on which player of their choice should be invited to the national team, it is now left for the coach to either invite them or neglect them.
