Nigerian Leagues Need To Be On TV - Club Owner

By Akila Matawal

Administrators of football leagues in Nigeria must ensure that league matches are broadcast live on television, says FC One Rockets owner and lawmaker Right Honourable, Otuekong Nse Essien.

Essien gave the appeal on a live radio interaction on XL106.9FM over the weekend.

"Football administrators must understand that if we are going to get it right, the right people must be at the right place at the right time… We need to put square pegs in square holes.

"What I mean is that our football needs to be on TV. It must be on TV."

He also added that sponsorship for the various leagues and fair play must also be in place.

"There must be sponsors. We must give people the reason to get back to the stadiums. We must have our stadiums full.

"Our administrators need to apply the slogan of FIFA which is fair play…They must be devoid of sentiments."

Essien then advised club owners to partner with the league bodies for a better footballing atmosphere.

"Owners of football clubs must be ready to accept defeat. If I win,let me win fairly. If I lose, let me lose squarely.

"Our teams don't do well at the continent. That is what happens when you don't produce worthy champions. Fair play must be there."
