Nigerian Players Abroad: Osimhen Scores In Lille 5-1 loss; Kayode, Dessers, Ezekiel Also On Target

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen made a goal-scoring return for Lille but it was not enough as they were thrashed 5-1 away to AS Monaco in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday,

Osimhen who was rushed to the hospital after he complained of dizziness and pain in the League Cup win in midweek also against Monaco, gave Lille the lead on 13 minutes.

But a brace from Wissam Ben Yedder and a goal each from Gelson Martin’s and Kamil Glik, secured the come back win for Monaco.

Osimhen’s goal was his 10th in 18 league appearances for Lille this season.

Prior to Saturday’s game, Lille had won their last four top flight games.

Moses Simon was in action for Nantes who suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Angers.

Simon was on the pitch for 90 minutes in his 17th league appearance, with two goals to his name.

Saturday’s defeat to Angers means Nantes have now lost back-to-back league games.

In another French Ligue 1 game, Samuel Kalu featured for Bordeaux who lost 1-0 away to Rennes.

Kalu played throughout the game which was his 16th with one goal to his name in the league.

His Nigerian teammate, Josh Maja was not in the Bordeaux squad for the encounter.

In the Turkish Super Lig, Olanrewaju Kayode bagged a brace and provided an assist in Gaziantep FK 4-3 away win against Kasimpasa.

Kayode netted in the 7th and a 44th minute penalty, his side’s first and fourth goals.

He provided the assist for his team’s second goal.

Last weekend, Kayode also scored two goals as they triumphed 3-0 at home.

The former Manchester City forward now has seven goals in 12 appearances.

In the Dutch Eredivisie, Belgian-born Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers scored for Heracles who played 1-1 away to Heerenveen.

Dessers scored on 54 minutes to put Heracles 1-0 ahead before Joey Veerman equalised for Heerenveen in the 56th minute.

The goal was Dessers’ 12th goal in 18 league appearances and it was his 15th goal in all competitions this campaign.

In the Belgian First Division, Imoh Ezekiel got on the score sheet for Kortrijk who defeated Eupen 2-1 away from home.

Ezekiel who was making his ninth league appearance, scoring two goals for Kortrijk this season, got on the score sheet on 20 minutes.

He was later replaced in the 73rd minute of the game.

His Nigerian teammate Abduljeleel Ajagun was introduced in the 90th minute.

Former Chelsea defender Ola Aina played for 90 minutes but could not help Torino see off visiting SPAL who ran out 2-1 winners.

Aina played in his 14th league game which has now seen Torino lose their last two league matches.

And in the Italian Serie B, Super Eagles 2018 World Cup striker Simeone Nwankwo had an assist in his 100th appearance for Crotone in their 2-1 home win against Livorno.

Nwankwo had the assist in the 23rd minute for Crotone’s first goal.

This season, Nwankwo has scored eight goals in 17 league outings for Crotone so far.

While in the Spanish LaLiga, Samuel Chukwueze was in Villareal’s starting eleven as they beat visiting Getafe 1-0.

Chukwueze was later replaced with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

He has made 17 league appearances and has scored three goals for Villareal this season.
