By Kola Daniel
The groupings for the Champions League this season show that players of Nigerian origin may have a chance to lift the trophy at the end of the tournament, depending on the performance of their various teams this season.
Not one but two players of Nigerian descent Daniel Okereke and Dennis Bonaventure in Group A with Club Brugge in the Belgian Pro League will have a go at lifting the trophy this season.
Paul Ebere and Stephen Odey are in Group E for Genk, while Peter Olayinka will make a feature for Slavia Praha in the Czech First League in Group F.
In Group H, we have rave of the moment, Victor Osihmen who was off to a great start and has continued in his impressive form, scoring his third and fourth goal of the season for his new club Lille, in their 3-0 victory over Saint-Etienne during the week.
The defending champions of this prestigious tournament all over the world, is Liverpool. Can any of these aforementioned players of Nigerian descent lift this prestigious trophy again after ex Internationals Finidi George and Kanu Nwankwo, including Mikel Obi have done with Ajax Amsterdam and Chelsea respectively?
Kola Daniel.
