NNL 2021: Nnewi United And Omoluabi Giants Week 2 Tie Ends In Stalemate By Admin A 30-meter volley by substitute Nathan David in the 80th minute rescued Nnewi United from being drowned by Osun United in a thrilling week 2 encounter of the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) played at the Osogbo Township Stadium on Saturday. The Omoluabi Giants who forced Go Round to a 1-1 draw in the week 1 encounter in Omoku were unlucky having lost their talismanic midfielder, Ajagbe Azeez to injury in the 29th minute while several chances were saved by Chiaha Chison in goal for the Anaedo Lions. The Omoluabi Giants had better possession in the first half with some attempts by Dennis Meshach whose efforts were thwarted by Fabian Fabian and Omale Innocent making it easy for Chiaha Chisom to be calm and confident in goal. Nwese Omega and Mwankwo Ugochukwu were prevented from causing havoc as Jerry Okon and Eze Chibuna guarded well, together with Seun Akinyemi and Aleem Adebayo to end the first half goalless. Osun United, at the start of the second half continued to mount pressure but a double substitution by Nnewi United with the introduction of Nathan David and Egbuonu Odimegwu added a bite to their attack. There was temporary disruption of the game at 65th minute when Nnewi United Chairman, Olisa Unochukwu directed his boys to abandon the match without any reason and was however given a matching order by the referee for such unruly behaviour. The hosts took a lead in the 75th minute when Dennis Meshach met the long throwing by Hakeem Olalere with a powerful header to send the home supporters and fans into a wild jubilation. The lead lasted just five minutes as Nathan David's long range volley caught Arinze Okoro napping and levelled up for Nnewi United to make it 1-1. Further efforts by the Omoluabi Giants to get maximum victory at home were unsuccessful as Anaedo Lions held on. With the results, Osun United have 2 points in as many games and will face Stationery Stores in Lagos next week while Nnewi have a point in two games and will host Vandresser in their first home game next weekend.
