The Chief Operating Officer of the Nigeria National League, NNL, Mr Lawrence Katken insisted that the 2019/20 season will kick off on Friday as scheduled, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
Katken while speaking with BSN Sports on Wednesday said the league management is confident that the season will start on Friday November 1st as agreed by the Congress, he however, could not tell the number of registered teams that will participate in the league for the season.
"Yes, we are confident that the league will commence on Friday as scheduled. Nothing has changed since the Congress agreed that the season starts on November 1st."
When he was asked on the number of teams that have completed their registration, Katken said: "I cannot tell you the number of teams that have completed their registration because i am not with their list here but the league will commence on the agreed date."
Despite 24 hours to the commencement of the league, there are doubts on whether the league could start as many clubs are yet to complete their registration with the league body, however, NNL management said they are confident that the teams will do needful while the kick off date remain sacrosanct.
In the same vein, the media officer of the league body, Amar Ignis says despite all the challenges nothing has changed about the commencement date.
" NNL is focused on starting Friday 1st November, 2019. We need to also know that the clubs owe it a duty to meet registration requirements that will make them legible to participate."
According to a letter written by Nigeria National League, on October 30th, 2019 to all NNL participating teams, the body appreciated teams that have completed their registration while urging those that are yet to register to do so.
However, football loving Nigerians will be happy to see the league kick off on Friday November 1st, 2109.
