In the first game of the day, Gombe United and El Kanemi Warriors shared the spoils (1-1) in a hotly contested Northern derby fixture. And in the second fixture of the match day 1, Shooting Stars had to come from behind to beat Bendel Insurance 2-1. The Oluyole Warriors found themselves behind as early as 14th minute when Daniel Johnson cooly converted a penalty awarded to them by the central referee after Shooting Stars goal keeper, Dare Dede was adjudged to have apprehended Bendel Insurance player in the 18-yard box. As at the time of filling this report, the second group A match between Niger Tornadoes and DMD is still goalless while Remo Stars is billed to take on Ekiti United later in the day.
