Gombe United Football Club began their quest to gain promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) with a 1-1 draw against Neighbors El-kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri at the Cathedral, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Gombe United began the game in a slow pace but find their rhythm in the course of the game firing cylinders from all angles but to no avail.
The Savannah Scorpions conceded a penalty as Ibrahim Mustapha (Yuga) made efforts to dribble in between two defenders but lost the ball after missing step inside the box, and the central referee pointed to the spot in the thirty one minutes of play.
After some few minutes of protest by Gombe United players, Mustapha Yuga stepped on ball and converted the spot kick which gave El-kanemi Warriors upfront at the Cathedral.
The first half ended 1-0 in favour of El-kanemi as Gombe United missed pockets of goal chances.
The Savannah Scorpions came into the second half more rejuvinated as they calmly took control of the game as all their efforts to cancel proved difficult.
The parity came in seventy sixth minutes after a delicious inter play from Usman Ahmed and Ahmed Jimoh before setting up Ibrahim Yahaya who restore parity with a superb chip in.
