NNL Super 8: We Have Not Received A Dime From NFF - Club Officials

By Niyi Busari

Officials from three clubs that made it to Asaba for the kickoff of the Nigeria National League, NNL, Super 8 last December have said they have not received any money from the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The officials spoke to www.bsnsports.com.ng on condition of anonymity said: "Since we returned back to our base, we have not received anything from NFF. Yes, they promised to give us Two million naira but up till this moment, we have neither hear nor receive anything from them. Funny enough, they expect us at the venue on January 3."

The NFF had directed the eight clubs that qualified to play the Super 8 from the four abridge league to gather at the Stephen Keshi stadium, Asaba and engage themselves in round-robin matches, so that four teams that qualify will join the twenty existing Nigeria Professional Football League.

Sadly, five clubs (3sc, Bendel Insurance, Remo Stars, Kada FC and Kogi united) were not at the venue for the playoff.

However, Delta Force, Real Stars and Gombe United made it to Asaba, trained and played friendly games against Enyimba during their 4-day stay.

In a swift reaction, the NFF on its part promised to give the sum of Two million naira (N2million) to each of the three clubs as compensation to cushion the effect of the expenses they have incurred during, before and after leaving Asaba.

However, the five clubs that failed to make it Asaba claimed that they have released some of their players, hence, could not raise a team to participate in Super 8.

Due to this reason, the NFF gave them few days to recruit players while another date January 3rd was set for the playoff in Asaba.

As at the time of filing this report, there has been not any convincing evidence that Super 8 will hold as scheduled.

The effect of this is that without the playoff, the 2019 NPFL will not commence.
