Vandrezzer set to face Nilayo FC in Abeokuta instead of the normal travel route (road) Nigerians teams are known for, decided to travel down to Abeokuta via train. The Lions' 28-man contingent of 18 players and 10 officials departed Mobolaji Johnson Station at Alagomeji Ebute - Meta Lagos at 8.15am and arrived Wole Soyinka Station in Abeokuta by 9.30am. VFC are the first football club in the country to use the standard gauge railway service since it began full operation in June 2021, this coming in line with the club's vision of bringing innovations to football development in Nigeria. Arriving Abeokuta, Team Manager, Fatai Olayinka says VFC will continue to explore avenues that will bring the best out of the players: "The welfare of our players and technical crew is very crucial to the progress of this football club. "We saw how the team struggled on Sunday against Nnewi United which was as a result of tired legs, having played on Thursday and then again on Sunday. Traveling by train is very smooth and comfortable for the players and the club as well. While speaking after the journey, head coach of the team Tony Bolus said; “We have a very innovative and caring management to have thought of this and I am never short of appreciation for the excellent leadership. The train ride was very relaxing and stress free which is great for the team. I’m sure the boys would be fired up for Sunday.” No doubt this is a very good way to go and would've been nice if all parts of the country is connected via train as it is devoid of bad road, no traffic, no robbers, seamless and fast as well. VFC will take on Nilayo FC in Abeokuta on Sunday, July 11, 2021 by 4pm.
