No more foreign based in the Junior National Teams - NFF
By Sampson Adedeji
The Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation Mohammed Sanusi has confirmed that no National Team coaches under the federation will be allowed to invite foreign based players into the Junior National Teams of Nigería, adding that it is done in order to restore confidence in he domestic league.
Both Nigeria's Flying Eagles and Golden Eaglets failed to go beyond second round at the FIFA U20 in Poland and U17 in Brazil this year, which called for questions at the various quarters around the country.
The NFF scribe further said the measure will restore confidence in the country domestic league as more players in the local scene will be encouraged.
“This year, we have series of qualifiers at the youth level both male and female. We want to build the youth teams starting from U17 to U20 around our local players with less emphasis on foreign players. Most of the nations that eliminated us from African qualifiers build their teams around their local players. So we must strengthen our league,” said Sanusi.
The qualifiers for both U17 and U20 will resume across Africa later this year and Nigria will be among he countries that will participate.
