NPFL: Alukwu’s goal earns troubled Heartland a salvage draw against Gombe United

    Jonathan Alukwu’s goal rescued hosts Heartland from another defeat as they share a spoil draw against Gombe United at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Wednesday, in the ongoing MatchDay 11 encounter, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The Savannah Scorpions put their heads upfront in the 34th minute when former Heartland player Eze Chidera, as he tapped in Ibrahim Yahaya's pass who beat Ikenna from the left flank. Earlier in the game, Ibrahim Yahaya scored a thunderbolt superb shot from the right angle but was overuled as offside,as the first stanza ended with the Savannah Scorpions up with a 1-0 lead. With new coach Erasmus Onu Ollotah beginning his latest career journey to Heartland with a number of changes in the lineup, Heartland spurned a huge chance to level up after the hour mark when Jimoh Gbadamosi blazed a spot kick over. However, Naze Millionaires begin to ask top many questions against Savannah Scorpions in the 82nd minute when Alukwu reacted quickest inside the box to get the ball over the line after Samuel Okon’s free kick was not properly cleared by the Gombe defence. With eight minutes towards regulation time, Jonathan Alukwu’s scrappy goal rescure the hosts Heartland, by showing a great composure after connecting from a free kick taken by Samuel Okon via a super header. The point leaves Heartland second from bottom on the log with eight points from eleven games while Gombe United climbed to 14th with 13 points.
