NPFL: Chilekwu's Solitary Goal Compound Kwara United Woes
BY ADMIN
Chigozie Chilekwu put in a five star performance crowned with a goal in the 77th minute as the Anambra Warriors saw off Kwara United by a goal to nil in one of the week 9 matches of the ongoing Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
Uche Okagbue and his technical crew made just two changes to the side that lost to Plateau United at the weekend as Ozioma Lucius came in for Jimoh Gbadamosi while Uche Onuora returned to the starting 11 ahead of Paul Chollom Junior who made his debut in Jos on match day 8. The warriors needed a response after the weekend's heavy defeat and they did so with furore of attacking moves in the early exchanges.
Ikenna Cooper would have started the goal rush after he got a through ball from Chigozie Chilekwu having taken advantage of a poor transition from attack to defence for the home side in the 4th minute. Goalkeeper Sharp Uzoigwe had to be alert to deny the visitors on two occasions in a space of 40 seconds pulling off crucial saves to deny Ozo Philip and skipper Pascal Eze in the 8th minute.
The shotstopper was called into action again in the 14th minute as he denied Alamayo Sodiq, at the other end Christian Nnaji missed a sitter after being fed by Uche Onuora.
Pascal Eze made an off the line clearance in what should have been the curtain raiser as he cleared Samuel Kalu's headed effort in what was the last real act of the half. In the second half, the Warriors should have taken the lead save for a feeble attempt by defender Ekpere Oguocha after being set up by overlapping Chigozie Chilekwu. The mercurial left full back would get the much desired goal in the 77th minutes from about 35 yards out with a rifle of a ball to decide the contest.
Next up for FC Ifeanyi Ubah is a trip to Kano for match day 10 fixture against Kano Pillars.
