NPFL clubs gear up for new season, as anxious fans are waiting for league to start
A number of Nigeria Professional Football League side are gearing up for the start of the 2018/19 League season which the league organizers, the League Management Company have stated it is due to commence on 13th of January, 2019.
Fans have missed out on actions from their teams in the last seven months as a result of the crisis that rocked Nigerian football within that period.
Lagos based MFM FC who have already lost a number of her key players this season including midfield maestro, Chukwuka Onuwa, one time CNN goal of the week award winner Sikiru Olatunbosun and Okorom who like Onuwa has joined former league champions and two times CAF champions league winner, Enyimba of Aba while Sikiru moved North to join Plateau Utd, another former league champion have been one of the most busiest teams in terms of the number of friendly matches and pre-season tournaments they have played and participated in the absence of the league.
The Olukoya boys will be looking to promote some of her young lads like Elijah Akanni and Abayomi into the main squad this season and have been preparing with a number of tune up games having participated in the Gold Cup Pre-Season tournament, the Wike Garden City cup and also played a number of tune up games.
Yesterday at its training pitch at the Mountain Top University pitch, the Lagos based side took on Spartan FC, another Lagos based side with a 3-2 slim victory.
The match according to the club's official twitter handle had been earlier schedule to take place at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium before a late change saw the game moved to the Mountain Top University Pitch which meant the kick-off was slightly adjusted with the game starting 7:30am Nigerian time.
The match saw Oluyoka Boys put their heads upfront at 3rd minute of the game which happened to be the only goal recorded in the first half and then increased the goal margin with a 3 goals advantage before conceding two late goals by the visitors in that encounter.
MFM FC a few weeks ago lost out to Remo Stars with a goal to nil at the same pitch.
In Abuja today, two premier league sides, NASARAWA UTD and Plateau UTD will go at loggerheads in a tune up game leading to the commencement of the league season.
Another encounter involving Nasarawa Utd and Plateau Utd is due for today.
Nigerian Football have been rocked in a number of crisis in the last 7 months which started after the world cup when a faction led by Ambassador Giwa presume itself to be the legitimate NFF chairman, a crisis that affected Nigeria league football for several months. There was also the case of the Congress of the NNL insisting on promoting eight teams from the NNL.
fans of Nigeria league football can't wait to see their darling league start again. We wait and see if the league will start on the 13th of January, 2019 as stated by the league hierarchy.
