NPFL MD 3: Nasarawa United Halt Remo Stars Perfect Start As Rivers United Ends Enyimba Unbeaten Run Sampson Adedeji The 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League entered its 3rd match day on Wednesday with Rivers United win over Enyimba being the biggest highlights of the midweek fixtures, BSNsports.com.ng can report. The People's Elephant started the season like an house on fire recording two massive wins against Oriental rivals, Abia Warrior and Enugu Rangers. But it was different story on Wednesday as the team suffered their first defeat under Finidi George losing by a lone goal right at their backyard to Rivers United. Rafiu Ishaq brilliance in the 51st minute gave Stanley Eguma's side the maximum points against one of the league favourites. Remo Stars dropped points at home to Nasarawa United which halted their perfect start to the season. The Gbenga Ogunbote team were caged by the resilient Nasarawa United who have now drawn their first three games of the season. It ended goalless at the beautiful Remo Stars stadium. At the Aper Aku stadium in Markurdi, Shooting Stars scored first through Akilu Mohammed in the 40th minute but failed to hold on and allowed Lobi Stars to score twice in the 64th minute through Admas Olamilekan and Ifeanyi Ogba in the 71st minute as Lobi emerged winner 2-1. Sunshine Stars of Akure continue their search for the first win of the season as they were held to a goalless draw at home by the visiting Enugu Rangers. MFM FC finally got the needed breakthrough to which ended their poor run in the new season as they pipped Fidelis Ilechukwu's Plateau United by a lone, thanks to a beautiful play by Tunde Azeez whose cross met unmarked Precious Roland perfectly well in the 18-yard box. The goal lite up the Teslim Balogun Stadium the adopted home ground of the Olukoya Boys where fans trooped out in their hundreds to show their support. At the Ilorin Township Stadium, Kwara United defeated Wikki Tourist of Bauchi 1-0 courtesy an own goal from Ebuka Anakwe in the 53rd minute. Heartland secured a 1-0 win over a visiting Dakkada FC in Okigwe with Jonas Emmanuel scoring the only goal of the game in the 69th minute. Champions Akwa United secured a 1-0 home win against Gombe United, Ubong Friday scoring from the spot kick in the 81st minutes. Unlike the first two games of the season, the match day 3 was a low scoring one with only 8 goals scored which produces just an 1 away win, 2 draws and 5 home victories.
