NPFL: Ray Of Hopes In Akure As The Stars Are Flashing Their Light To The Delights Of Their Faithfuls By Omolagba Oluwayemi A sigh of relief in Akure as their beloved Sunshine Stars picked pulled a stunt of result today in Owerri against Fidelis Ilechukwu's Heartland, BSNSports.com.ng reports. The Akure gunners who like their counterpart in England have failed to live up to expectations this season are on the brink of getting relegated from the topflight football in Nigeria (NPFL) to the lower league (NNL) but a string of results although inconsistent still has seen them temporarily moved out of drop zone for the first time in over two months to 16th although level on points with 17th place Jigawa Golden Stars. Ifeagwu Ojukwu scored the lone goal that gave Sunshine the solitary victory against their host on Sunday evening. Since his appointment in early June, coach Ayodeji Ayeni has helped the team amass a total of 12 points from possible 21 which by far is a better record than they've achieved since January. They have now moved out of the drop zones for the first time in over 2 months although they're still in a sketchy position. With title contender, Kano Pillars visiting Akure next, it's left to be seen how Ayeni will motivate his boys to achieve the desired result as anything short of victory will send them back into the relegation waters where they've had nice times in recent months.
