NPFL: We Are Not Sure the League will Start on Sept. 2nd……..Alloy Cukwuemeka By Niyi Busari Executive Secretary, Club Owners Association, Alloy Chukwuemeka has said that he is not sure the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) will start this weekend as suggested in a proposed fixtures released last week. He expressed his doubt on the possibility of commencing the remaining 14 league matches on September 2nd 2018 via whatsApp message to our correspondent. When he was asked about the certainty of the commencement of the league next Sunday, he replied, 50/50. The members of the Association is expected to meet with League Management Company officials in Abuja on Thursday to discuss on the commencement programme for the league. According to the secretary, the meeting will be on how the league will end at the end of October, so as to have two clubs that will represent the country at the CAF competitions. Many football pundits as well as club officials did not see the possibility of the proposed fixtures coming to reality citing many factors like; funds, logistics among others. In a letter made available to www.bsnsports.com.ng, the emergency joint meeting of the LMC and Club Owners Association will start by 7pm at Hotel Reno, Abuja. The letter titled: “Notice of Emergency Meeting LMC/Club Owners, reads: “I am directed to bring to the notice of members that there will be an emergency joint meeting of the LMC and the Club Owners Association. “Agenda will focus on the commencement programme for the league.” The NPFL was suspended due to Nigeria participation at the world cup in Russia with expectation that the remaining 14 matches will commence at the end of the tournament. LMC has pointed to the leadership crisis as the reason the league was on hold till the moment.
