Despite suffering a little setback in the past few games, Rivers United head coach Stanley Eguma said they are still in contention for the league title, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
It was a day to forget for Pride of Rivers in the match day 17 as they suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Lobi Stars at the Aper Aku stadium.
The team who started this season on a high will have opportunity of redeeming its battered image this weekend as they play host to another struggling side Sunshine Stars at the Adoke Amaisimaka stadium in Port-Harcourt.
Eguma believe they can still challenge for the title as the league just reach halfway.
"Yes we are still on. The league is still on. The first half (of the league) is not even over and then we talk of the second round. We are still on and I strongly believe we can go against all odds to contend for the league title," he said.
Rivers United is presently 7th on the league table with 26 points in 16 matches.
