Sunshine were banished to a new home, Ijebu-ode where they were to play against Wikki Tourists on Sunday in the 2021/22 NPFL opener. The home team, Sunshine Stars trying to save cost headed to Akure on Sunday to focus on their next game hoping that the League Management Company (LMC) would rule in their favour. In an exclusive interview with BSN Sports, Media Officer of Sunshine Stars, Chris Okunuwa said; 'we have left for Akurẹ after Wikki Tourists failed to showed up for the match yesterday (Sunday). He added, "I am not in position to decide whether we would have three points or not but the rule is very clear and we wait for the LMC to decide that while we return to prepare for our next match." On the other hand, Wikki Tourists also claimed that they have three points in their kitty but needed to wait for the pronouncement from the LMC. In an exclusive interview with BSN Sports on Monday evening, the media officer of the team, Abdullahi Kobi claimed that they informed Sunshine Stars that they wouldn't play yesterday (Sunday) during the pre-match meeting at 10:30am in Ijebu-ode and according to him, both teams agreed that the match be played today (Monday). "Both have agreed during the pre-match meeting on Sunday that the match will no longer hold yesterday but today. So, we waited patiently for the match and today when we got to the pitch and Sunshine Stars didn't show up for the match, the match officials said they cannot pronounce a walk over yet until they prepare their report and submit to the LMC. Meanwhile, Wikki Tourists were under a ban from FIFA from playing new players, the ban arose from their former Ghana goalkeeper who reported them to FIFA they were owing him $5,000. FIFA then ruled that Wikki Tourists must pay this money before they can play any new players but once they pay, the ban is automatically lifted. Wikki paid the $5,000 as directed by FIFA and sent the proof of payment to both FIFA and copied NFF and LMC. Wikki waited for the approval of FIFA to use new players but the approval came later on Sunday. Sunshine Stars left Ijebu-ode after Wikki failed to show up for the match on Sunday. Wikki Tourists having been permitted to use new signings were on the pitch on Monday waited endlessly for Sunshine who had returned back to Akure.
