NWFL SUPER 6: Delta Queens Win Opener As Rivers Angels Drop Point Against FC Robo Queen

Delta Queens kicked off their 2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six campaign on a winning note with a 2-1 triumph over Edo Queens in the opening game at the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Edo Queens started the game by dominating possession in a bid to score the opening goal of the game.
Elizabeth Zirike’s free kick in the sixth minute went wide before Delta Queens got their rhythm.
Folorunsho Comfort’s free kick in the 11th minute did not pose any threat to Christy Ohiaeriaku in goal for Edo Queens.
Nine minutes later, across from the right-wing was not fully capitalized by Delta Queens’ duo of Tejiri Edward and Bright Nnaji.
In the 27th minute, Jumoke Alani’s half volley went wide.
Delta Queen’s recruit, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu got a well-connected pass from Chioma Olise, before dribbling past Christy Ohiaeriaku to net the first goal of the encounter in the 41st minute.
Nneka Julius’s superb free-kick from about 23 yards levelled the scoreline in the 53rd minute.
Delta Queens had the final laugh in the 71st minute with the winning goal when Comfort Folorunsho scored through a Mamuzo Edafe’s corner kick. Christy Ohiaeriaku had earlier made a brilliant save which led to the resultant corner kick.
The other two games on the opening game of the 2021 NWFL Premiership Super Six ended in a 1-1 draw on Monday, April 19, 2021.
A fifth-minute goal from Opeyemi Sunday for Sunshine Queens was canceled by Charity Reuben’s 31st-minute strike.
FC Robo Queens vs Rivers Angels
FC Robo Queens forced Rivers Angels to a 1-1 draw.
Vivian Ikechukwu had given Rivers Angels a 46th minute lead before Monday Gift equaliser for FC Robo Queens in the 87th minute
Delta Queens opened up a two-point lead at the top of the table after the opening day results, followed by FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels with a point each. Edo Queens is bottom of the table with no point.
Sunshine Queens and Edo Queens will play the opening game by 2 pm on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, followed double game by 4 pm when FC Robo Queens and Bayelsa Queens will play at the second pitch while Delta Queens and Rivers Angels settle scores at the main bowl.
