Obafemi Was Not Under Pressure to Choose Ireland Over Nigeria......Martin O’Neil
Republic of Ireland coach Martin O’Neill has refuted claims that Michael Obafemi has been pressurised to commit his international future to the Irish National team.
The Southampton youngster is eligible to represent Nigeria, England and Republic of Ireland, but the Irish Football Association are leading the chase for the teenager.
The 18-year-old has been named by the former Aston Villa and Celtic boss in Ireland’s squad list for their UEFA Nations League clash withDenmark this month.
”He (Michael Obafemi) is in the squad at this minute,” O’Neill told media on Monday.
”He obviously has decisions to make for his future. You would expect that anyway.
”I think that’s something he would obviously discuss with his family.
”So there will be no real pressure on him to make that decison in the next couple of days.”
Before his Latest invitation Michael Obafemi represented Ireland at U19 level.
