Odegbami Thumbs Up PFAN Stance On Equal Representation Of Stakeholders At NFF Election By Niyi Busari Former Super Eagles winger, Segun Odegbami has thrown his weight behind the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria PFAN stance on equal representation of stakeholders at the Nigeria Football Federation elections describing it as a visionary step that will restore sanity, equity and fairplay to the process of installing a an authentic leadership for the Nigeria Football Federation. Three members of the Players Union (Harrison Jalla, Victor Baribote and Austin Popo), last Friday, in their own capacity sued the NFF to court demanding among other things for players Union to have equal number as that of the State Football Associations in the NFF election. The State Football Associations have 37 votes out of total eligible 44 votes while other members has one vote each. This according to PFAN is against the rule of democracy. They pointed out that it is against Article 10 of the NFF Statute which provided for five members namely: The Coaches Association, Referee Association, Players Association, the League and State FAs. The members should be equally represented they argued. Reacting to the Players Union's argument, the 1980 AFCON winner said; "This is the biggest and most important action by the Players Union, a visionary step that will restore sanity, equity and fairplay to the process of installing a an authentic leadership for the Nigeria Football Federation. It will reduce the tendencies for corruption and influence of money and politics. "Not everyone can see what the Union has seen in instituting this action, but, for those that know thw foundations of Nigerian football and càn envision a great future, this is for the overall good of football and its future. The present congress cannot amend the present faulty constitution because they are beneficiaries of the anomaly in unequal representation, is the single biggest hindrance to authentic domestic football development in the present state. "When every one understands this they will embrace the implication of this desired giant step. This makes absolute sense. Well done, Players Union." He concluded.
