Okagbare Finish Fifth At First Diamond League Of The Season
By Uche Dozie
Nigeria's track Queen, Blessing Okagbare ran a time of 11.57s to finish fifth in Gatehead on Sunday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Despite the poor conditions, Blessing Okagbare had qualified for the final of the women's 100m at the Gateshead DL, clocking 11.71 (-4.4) to finish second behind World Silver medallist Dina Asha-Smith.
However, it was a different ball game in the finals as Okagbare came fifth clocking 11.57s (-3.1m/s).
She fell short of her Personal and Season Best of 10.97s (+1.2) in the 100m which she ran at the US ATF Grand Prix in Oregon in April this year.
The race was to the surprise of many by Dina Asher-Smith as she braved the odds to win the women's 100m with 11.35s into a strong 3.1m/s headwind almost a meter clear of American sensation Sha’Carri Richardson’s who clocked 11.44.
African track sensation Ta Lou clocked 11.48m to finish third while World champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce 4th in 11.51.
