Olympic Hero Celebrates Life 23 Years After Surviving Ghastly Automobile Accident

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Dosu Joseph is happy to alive 23 years after surviving a ghastly automobile accident that left him almost paralysed.

The former Julius Berger shot stopper issued a statement on Sunday on the 23rd anniversary of the accident that took place on 7 June 1997, along Ikorodu Road in Lagos, ending his blossoming career at just 23.

The 46-year-old who has been running his football academy in Lagos since 2009, is grateful to God for giving him a second chance at life after staring death in the face.

"What a time to be alive, I cannot believe today mark the start of a 2nd life 7/6/1997, 23 years ago, thank God for grace and mercy," stated Dosu, who belted three games for the Super Eagles before the ill-fated crash.

The crash occurred a few hours after Dosu featured in Nigeria's 3-0 defeat of Guinea, to qualify for the 1998 World Cup in France. He was rescued and taken to Eko Hospital.

Months later, Dosu explained that he had been driving along the busy highway at night when everywhere suddenly went blank, and that he had seen cows everywhere, lost control of the car and veered off the road.

Prior to the crash, Dosu signed with Serie A club Reggiana, but never made an impact in Italy, as he was forced to hang his boots at just 23.

He was only able to walk again with the help of his wife.
