Olympic Trials and Invitation Relays: Nigeria Best Throwers; World No 5, African Record Holder On Parade Today By Our Reporter It will be another opportunity for fans to witness the best of throwers in the country on the Day 3 of the ongoing Athletic Federation of Nigeria Olympic Trials and Invitation Relays currently going on at the Yabatech Sports Complex, Lagos. The opening day saw the fans witness a record breaking run for Queen of the Track, Blessing Okagbare and Olympic Games qualification for youngster, Enoch Adegoke while the Day 2 was all about Tobi Amusan, Mike Edwards, Patience Okon-George and Esther Issa. Amusan won the women’s 100m Hurdles in what would have been a new National record, but for the failure of the timer, leading to the officials using a hand timer to record her time while Esther Issa recorded a new PB for herself. The Third Day will see the likes of Chukwuebuka Enekwechi entertaining the crowd in the men’s shot put final as World No. 5 athlete and New African and National Record holder, Annette Echikunwoke showing her stuff in the women’s hammer. Echikunwoke secured the Arfican Record with a throw of 75.49m and will be looking forward to getting a better throw in front of the Nigerian fans. She will be joined by another US-based athlete Oyetade Olatoye who already had a throw of 69.89m and a gold already in the women’s shot put. It will not be Enekwechi alone in the Men’s shot put, he will be accompanied by Dotun Ogundeji, who is looking forward to the 21.10m, the Olympic Games standard with his Personal Best standing at 21.05m at the moment. All eyes will be on Chioma Onyekwere in the women's discus as the championship gradually draws to a close. Speaking about the throws event, US-based coach, Gabriel Opuana, said all the throwers, especially those coming from the US, are in top form and will be attempting to break all available records when.the event gets underway today.
