Osayi-Samuel's Allegations Against Racist Abuse Doused In England

Fernebahce of Turkey winger, Bright Osayi-Samuel’s exit from Queens Park Rangers f England has apparently caused a stall into investigations into alleged racist abuse hurled against him by opposing fans, BSNSports.com.ng reports. Human rights and anti-racism groups have raised alarm that officers of Metropolitan Police and social media platform, Instagram are no longer actively pursuing an investigation into the racist abuse sent to Osayi-Samuel during his time in London. The 23-year-old, who played for QPR at the time, was racially abused on the social media platform after their 1-1 draw with Norwich City on December 29. He posted a screenshot of the messages, describing it as disgusting and painful. At that time, London’s police and Instagram both launched investigations, but latest checks have revealed that they have been unable to take action against the user for various reasons. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told Sky Sports News: “Police received a third party report of racial and abusive messages directed at a person via social media on 30 December, 2020. The comments are believed to have been posted the previous day. “Officers made repeated attempts to contact the alleged victim with a view to taking a statement. However, he declined to support any police action and so the case has been closed.” On their part, Instagram say they need victims of abuse, through direct messages, to report it using the in-app tools before they can take action. Sky Sports News added: “The social media company has reached out to Osayi-Samuel, through his new club Fenerbahçe, to explain their protocols for reporting abuse in direct messages.” All this come at a point Osayi-Samuel revealed that his father had been a fan of Fenerbahçe long before he joined the Turkish Super Lig club in the winter transfer market and he finally got his first goal for The Yellow Canaries in a 3-0 win over Konyaspor, after eight games without scoring. The winger-cum-attacker, whose contract with Fenerbahçe keeps him at the Istanbul club until the end of the 2024/25 season, disclosed that his father and sisters were delighted following his first goal for the Istanbul-based side. Osayi-Samuel told T24 online newspaper: “They were also very happy. I talked to my father. He’s a bit crazy. Frankly, he takes every match very seriously. Even if I score 5-6 goals, he says it’s not enough for me. “He always wants me to work hard. We analyze the match together. My whole family in general, my sisters were very happy. My father said that someone he lived with in his youth was a very strong Fenerbahçe fan. “They used to watch many Fenerbahçe matches together. Therefore, my father has been a fan of Fenerbahçe for a long time.”
