Osun United Management Reveals Ownership, Registration Status Of The Club
By Admin
The management of Osun United has maintained that the club is registered with relevant football bodies in Nigeria otherwise, it would not have been recognized and incorporated as a club by the football governing body in the country.
The management, in a statement by the President, Ademola Adesina affirmed that the State Government of Osun took over ownership of the club, which was then known as Prime FC, after 2012 National Federation Cup from Osogbo Local Government and renamed it "Osun United" in June 2017
"Osun United FC is a registered football club in Nigeria. That is why the club can be able to participate in football tournaments in Nigeria," began the three-time AFCON medallist.
"I was the coach of Prime FC in 2012 when the club won the Nigeria Federation Cup bronze medal. Governor Rauf Aregbesola together with his cabinet and House of Assembly members were present in Ilorin, Kwara State to watch our semi final loss to Heartland. After the competition, Osogbo Local Government could not bear financial obligations of the team again, making the State Government to take over and rename it Osun United in 2017."
The former Shooting Stars of Ibadan continued that "records are there that the club is owned by the government. Governor Oyetola, who was the Chief of Staff in 2012 represented Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the renaming event. In fact, the COS unveiled and presented Duke Udi as coach of the team that day at the Governor's office. If the team does not belong to Osun Government, would this have happened?"
Similarly, the then Chief of Staff, Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, who is now the Governor, worked with two former Commissioners, Mr. Stephen Kola-Balogun and Comrade Biyi Odunlade as well as the late football icon, Chief Taiwo Ogunjobi who was the Club's President to do the needful in terms of ownership, control and finance of the team."
"In addition, Governor Oyetola formally inaugurated a new board member to manage activities of the team on May 8, 2019 at the excos Chamber, Governor's Office, Abere together with the cabinet and House of Assembly members, with the presence of the media. All these are facts that cannot be denied and are even available on social media."
"Recourse to the so-called unrecognized Osun United during military rule and thus sold off during Chief Bisi Akande's administration has nothing to do with the present team. That was a dead era that has long been buried while successive administrations never had issue with it since it has nothing to do with the present one taken over by the State Government."
"Saying Osun United is not owned by the government is being economical with the truth or being unaware of the situation as the present Governor and the sports loving cabinet members, the lawmakers, football community as well as the media can fully testify to this."
"For the purpose of educating those who are not conversant with the approaches of registering a football club, state Football Associations, the League Management and the Nigerian Football Federation are major stakeholders to consult as they are saddled with football administration, registration and control in Nigeria, with respect to FIFA rules," concluded Chief Adesina
Below are few evidences and proof of the State Government's ownership of Osun United with the pictures of Governor Oyetola during the formal renaming of the team from Prime FC to Osun United, the unveiling of Duke Udi as a coach as well as inauguration of the new board last year.
