Osun Utd 2-0 Nnewi Utd; Ahmed scores brace as Omoluabi Giants cruise past Anaedo Lions By Tunde Shamsudeen Osun United Football Club continued their fine run of form at home, defeating Nnewi United Football Club 2-0 on Saturday at the Oshogbo Township Stadium in one of the Week 13 contest of the 2018 Bet9ja Nigeria National League. The Omoluabi Giants gangling striker, Ahmed Rasheed, scored a brace to beat the Anaedo Lions. Osun United saw off their opponent and were more comfortable in possession, made the better attacking forays and made sure their rock-solid defence was not punctured. In the first half that ended goalless, Nnewi United put up a big fight and were unlucky not to get on the score sheet from Somfochukwu Chimezie and Happy Okwoka, who both missed clear cut chances. The Anaedo Lions almost got the opening goal in the 27th minute as Okwoka, capitalized on a defensive blunder to go one-on-one with Nurudeen Lateef, but missed the golden chance, as his placing at the near post going just wide of the goal. Nnewi United's Anasoh Chisom was sent off in the 45th minute for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ahmed showed his predatory skills with double strike in the second half to help the 'Believe and Achieve' side with a comfortable win. Coach Duke Udi, in the second half introduced Mamud Akorede, who went into act of terrorizing to give Osun United more power play in the attack and were rewarded with a 62nd minute penalty. Ahmed bundled in the opener as his carefully weighted spot kick found the back of the net. Osun United continued to dominate after taking the lead and Ahmed's second goal to seal all the three points for his side came in the 65th minute, with a stunning header off a set piece from Suraj Sodiq, that cut Nnewi United goalkeeper Anderson Okekem napping, to send the impressive fans into wide jubilation. Osun United are now swimming out of drop zone on the log, having garnered eleven points with two outstanding home matches at home and will be guest to Ikorodu United Football Club on Wednesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
