104 athletes have registered to compete for ranking points and money prizes at the forthcoming Kebbi Taekwondo Open Championships, which has been slated to hold between 9 – 11 November 2019 at the Hauru Abdul Stadium, Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.
The event, which is being organized by the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation in conjunction with the Kebbi State Taekwondo Association, will be using the Daedo Gen 2 scoring technology, Instant Video Replay as well as the Taekoplan Overall Event Management system to ensure the event conforms to international standards.
The still on-going registration exercise, which has seen 70 males and 34 females from 22 teams registered, is the last nationally ranked event of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation before the highly anticipated debut of the season-ending best-of-the-best championships in December that will host the nation’s top five athletes in each Olympic weight category.
13 of the 16 members of the National Team that represented Nigeria at the 12th All African Games are also registered to compete at the Kebbi event, including all six medalists led by team captains, All African Games Gold Medallist Chinazum Nwosu and All African Games Bronze medalist, Sunday Onofe.
The event will be the first NTF-sanctioned taekwondo event to be held in Kebbi state, stretching the number of states that have experienced Federation national programs in the past 24 months to 10 states, including Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Ebonyi, Kaduna, FCT Abuja, Osun, Benue and Zamfara.
