Owerri Basketball classic set to Dunk off at the Dan Anyiam stadium By Our Reporter Owerri Basketball classic debut set for take off at Dan Anyiam stadium All is set for the biggest basketball competition east of the Niger this season as the Owerri Basketball Classic debut at the newly renovated Dan Ayiam Basketball court in Owerri gets set to kick off. Speaking to the media during the weekend, chairman Imo state Basketball association Mr Kelechi Anosike said the objective of the classic is to first enhance the capacity of the players in the state and honor past hero’s of the game who has contributed to the development and promoting the game in the state and Nigeria. While stressing the need to promoting the game at the grassroot which is were majority of the players are discovered, the 15 team tournament will answer the name of various Nigerian basketball players who are from the state who own the teams on their own. Former captain of the senior national team, Ike Diogu have team one and two team Chidi and Ngozi kelechi Anuna Wonbyome Sarah OGOKE Julius Nwosu and Imo veterans are some of the teams at the tournament . Media coordinator of the tournament and publisher of Silvernews communication, Mr Kennedy Onwunali said the classic will ensure that basketballers in the state are given the needed exposer which has been lacking, saying the idea to immotalize the players will motivate them to enhance their present towards the development of the game at home.
