Patrick Pascal Reveals Secret of Super Eagles Recent Good Performance

By Niyi Busari

Super Eagles coordinator, Patrick Pascal has revealed the real reason why the Nigeria's Super Eagles are in top form recently, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

The ex-international while speaking with www.bsnsports.com.ng in Abuja said that the competition between players in every position in the Super Eagles is the main reason the team is now rated among the best African teams and feared by other countries.

"The interesting thing about the team (Super Eagles) is that there is competition in every position, unlike before where two or three players will hold Nigeria to ransom. The competition among the players has been one of the reasons why they are doing well." He told BSN Sports.

He stated further that the Super Eagles should consolidate on the 2019 achievements in 2020.

"The building process of the Super Eagles must continue in 2020 because now, we have a very young and good team who is ready to face any team in the world.

Speaking about whether the Super Eagles can still qualify for the 2021 African Nations Cup as the first African nation with a match to spare, Pascal said.

"The most important thing is for Nigeria to qualify, whether first country in Africa to do so, is not the issue. We just need to be focus and take each match the way it comes. And with the way we started, we won at home and picked maximum points on the road. So it is a very good start for us.

The former 3SC defender also encouraged the home based players to up their game so that the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr can invite good players from the league to camp.

"Now that the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) league has started it is now left for the home based players to prove themselves, if they play very well they will be invited and probably play for Super Eagles. After all, the Eagles coach has never said that he is not going to invite good home based players. So, if they play very well, definitely, he will consider them.

He expressed satisfaction with their 2019 performance.

"I am very impressed with the performance of the Super Eagles in 2019. You see, previous year, we were talking about building a team, but now we have a team and now Nigeria is not afraid to play against any other country. Recently, we played Ukraine and Brazil and came out unscathed and in 2020 Nigeria may play Italy and Germany." He concluded.
