  PHC 2020 Ladies Open: Ozoemene Assures On Golfers' Safety By Taofeek LAWAL The Lady Captain of the golf section of Port Harcourt Club 1928, Mrs. Patience Oghale Ozoemene has assured golfers that will be participating in the Port Harcourt Ladies Amateur Open scheduled for 4th to 6th December of absolute safety as the Golf Tourney will be held in compliance to the directives of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Ozoemene, while briefing press ahead of the epic golf event that entered its 29th edition this year said there is a twist from the regular ways of organising a tournament due to the consciousness of the Covid19 pandemic which is why the organizing committee devised better arrangement instead of the regular two or three day tournament. Now it will be a whole week of activities in order to decongest the golf course. “We are trying to limit participants due to the Covid 19 and we are putting proper measures in place to comply with the new normal that operates all over the world. The good thing with the game of golf is that it is not contact sports. Moreover, it is an outdoor game with a lot of trees where one can breathe fresh air. “This is a trying time, we are conscious of the fact the virus is still there, which is why instead of the regular two or three-day tournament, it has been categorized by the committee such that there will be minimal crowd around and presentation of prizes will be done on daily basis”, she added. The lady captain however commended the few bodies that came out to support the event saying sponsors are not easy like before due to the adverse effect of the pandemic on economic status of the multi-national companies. “We are thankful to those that supported us; we were able to get a few corporate sponsors such as: Keves Global Leasing Ltd, Chairborne Global Services Ltd, Ajamy Oil and Gas Ltd and so many individual sponsors”, Ozoemene noted. Ozoemene who played off handicap12 with about two years experience as the lady Captain said she has done her best to lift the lady section of PHC to a higher pedestal for where she met it.
