Players Union Thanks Buhari Over Amokachi Appointment

The leaders of the two Players Unions in Nigeria on Friday paid a courtesy visit to Special Assistant on Sports to President, Daniel Amokachi to intimate him on their support, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The Unions also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the appointment adding that the new office will help Nigeria achieve greater heights in sports under Buhari second term. While wishing Amokachi good luck, they also thanked the minister of sports, Sunday Dare for insisting on club licensing, adding that Nigerian leagues must be run professionally to produce best legs for national teams.

In a chat with BSN Sports, former Nigeria winger and president Players Union, Tijani Babangida said: "We thank president Muhammadu Buhari for appointing one of us (Amokachi) as his Special Assistant on Sports. We were in his (Amokachi) office to let him know that we stand with him.

"Also, we thank the minister of sports for insisting on club licensing for a better league, security and better players." He concluded.

Daniel Amokachi in August 2020 was appointed Special Assistant on Sports to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Both Players' Unions - National Association of Nigerian Footballers (NANF) and National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) - are negotiating and consulting to merge the bodies into one for the betterment of Nigeria footballers
