Preparations For The Olympics And Paralympics Are In Top Gears - Gabriel Okon
By Omolagba Oluwayemi
Coach of the Nigeria Athletics team, Gabriel Okon yesterday in Abuja explained the preparation plans for Nigeria athletes for the forthcoming olympics and paralympics, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Okon while speaking to the press assured Nigerians that both the olympics and paralympics athletes have been preparing well for the competitions.
"We're preparing for the olympics and paralympics games and our preparations are in top gears," he said.
"Our athletes will better the timing that qualified them for the olympics and paralympics because they're building up to a crescendo shortly before the olympics games and like the honourable minister had said, we're looking at probably a minimum of 60 days camping for both the olympics and paralympics games athletes." This he said when asked if the athletes will be able to match up their previous timing.
"Those that are going to US are going to Texas because they have several means that they are going to participate in. For relays we've been told that we didn't go for relays in Poland because of the visa issues and now we've been able to get four relay competitions for them where other countries will be coming to join them, so there from Nigeria will qualify and then they'll have a training camp in the US."
The olympics team missed out of the qualifying tournament held recently in Poland due to visa issues but were immediately issued visas to the United States.
