Presidential Cup: Kano Pillars Smacks Sunshine Stars, Akwa Utd Pip Lobi Stars By Omolagba Oluwayemi The President Cup made its grand start at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday with participants showing the world a glimpse of what to expect when the 2021/22 NPFL season finally kick-off, BSNSports.com.ng reports. In the very first match played on the newly renovated playing turf, Sunshine Stars fell 3-1 to Kano Pillars. The Sai Masu Gida took the through Aniemeke in the 33rd minutes. His goal was officially the first scored on the new turf. Sunshine Stars found themselves back in the encounter through Ugochukwu Leonard in the 53rd minutes before but Hassan ensured the joy didn't last long in the camp of the Owena Waves as he restored Pillars lead 3 minutes later. Rabiu Ali killed Sunshine Stars hope of equaliser when he scored a sensational free kick in the 76th minute. In the second match of the day, it was an end to end play between league defending champions, Akwa United and Lobi Stars with the later carrying the day all thanks to Ezekiel Bassey's 36th minute goal. The tournament continues on Saturday with Kano Pillars and Lobi Stars going head-to-head by 3pm while Akwa United and Sunshine Stars face-off by 6pm.
