The inaugural edition of the Presidential Cup will kick-off today at the refurbished Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, BSNSports com.ng reports.
Recall that the Stadium was recently refurbished by the Dangote group and delivered to the Sports Ministry after it completion.
The Stadium is billed to play host to Presidential Cup, a tournament organised to launch the new playing turf with 4 NPFL teams invited.
League defending champions Akwa United, Lobi Stars, Kano Pillars and Sunshine Stars will all partake in the tournament billed to start on Friday afternoon.
Sunshine Stars who narrowly escaped relegation last season will trade tackle Kano Pillars who on their own also missed out from continental places in the first ever match to be played at the stadium after its renovation. The match is set to kick off by 3pm local time.
Lobi Stars will then go head-to-head against league defending champions, Akwa United 6pm.
Speaking about the tournament and what has been made available for participating teams, special adviser to the Federal Government on Sports, Daniel Amokachi said:
"There will be appearance fees for the teams and their feeding plus accommodation will be taken care of".
The tournament which will kick-off later today will end on Sunday with two games played each day, one of which will be under the floodlight.
