Prince Moulay Rachid Declares 12th African Games Open As Ghana Host 13th Edition

Prince Moulay Rachid, the younger brother of King Muhammed VI on Monday 19th August, 2019 declared the 12th African Games open at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium, BSNSports.com.ng can report.

During the opening ceremony on Monday night in Rabat, Morocco proved that they have the facilities to host Africans and even the world, having had less than 390 days to prepare for the African Games after Equatorial Guinea pulled out of hosting the tournament and yet presented to the world a colorful, eye-catching worthy opening ceremony.

Morocco, having missed out in the last eight editions of African Games due to the ban issued to them by the African Union after a territory disputes with Western Sahara, Morocco comes back with force as the host of the competition, for the first time.

During official opening ceremony of the 12th Africa Games which took place in Rabat, over 7,000 Athletes filled the Mouly Abdellah Stadium representing 54 Nations and will be participating in 28 Sports.

Meanwhile, Ghana will be the host of the 13th African Games in 2023.

Accra, the capital of Ghana is hosting the 13th edition of African Games for the first time.

Accra is the capital and largest city of
Ghana , covering an area of 225.67 km with an estimated urban population of 2.27 million as of 2012. It is organized into 10 local government districts – 9 municipal districts and the Accra Metropolitan District, which is the only district within the capital to be granted city status.

"Accra" usually refers to the Accra Metro Area, which serves as the capital of Ghana, while the district which is within the jurisdiction of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly is distinguished from the rest of the capital as the "City of Accra". In common usage, however, the terms "Accra" and "City of Accra" are used interchangeably.
