PSL: Benni McCarthy Lauds Players And Coaching Crew For Coach Of The Season Award By Uche Dozie A couple of days after emerging DSTV Premiership Coach of the season, South African Legend and coach of Amazulu have praised his players and assistant coaches for the award, BSNSports.com.ng reports. McCarthy qualified the Durban based PSL team to their first CAF Champions League after finishing second in the league behind Mamelodi Sundowns. The former Cape Town City Coach beat Mamelodi Sundowns co-coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena, as well as Mandla Ncikazi from Golden Arrows to the award. The 43-year-old had taken time to thank his team of coaches and players for their hard work towards the team's success. "I just would like to say thank you very much for voting for me and for having me [win] the coach of the season award," McCarthy said via an AmaZulu media release. "I couldn't have done it without my technical team, my amazing technical team, their work ethic, their loyalty has given me the freedom to work to the best of my ability." "As a team we were able to get over the line and make sure the team qualifies in second position for the CAF Champions League, so I am grateful for these guys. "But most importantly, the guys who should be taking all the credit must be the players. "The players have been fantastic since I walked through the door, they have given me everything and more, they were able to have the best season, a historical season for AmaZulu." "I am thankful for their hard work, their determination, their sacrifices and their willingness to learn, to improve and be better." McCarthy was hired last December to replace Coach Ayanda Dlamini who stepped down from the position on 7 December 2020. The Usuthu who were 12th on the log prior to McCarthy's finished thirteen points behind league winners Sundowns playing 30 games with 15 wins, 9 draws and 6 loses.
