Head Coach of South Africa premier league side Kaizer chief FC Gavin Hunt has explained the reason he played Nigeria's Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi in the club last match ahead of South Africa international Khune Itumeleng, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
After missing the season opening match against defending champion Mamelodi Sundown due to passport issue, Akpeyi returned to goal on Tuesday night for the match against his former team Chippa United.
The club manager on Wednesday explained through kick off that Khune was not dropped because of performance but Akpeyi look a bit better in term of fitness
" The problem is that we haven't had a proper pre-season, and I think Itu came back from a major injury and didn't play much until right at the end [of last season]," explained Hunt.
"We've had two, maybe three-and-a-half weeks of trying to get everyone settled in, and Daniel obviously had a problem with his work permit, and it came through yesterday.
So, I just felt he was certainly ready to play, and let's have a look," he told Kick off.
