Rabat 2019: Nigeria Medals Update

While the newly appointed Nigeria's Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare will be expecting Team Nigeria currently competing at the 2019 African Games in Morocco to end the competition as the best sporting country in the continent, the athletes have not really done well as Nigerians expected them to have performed.

As at noon, Sunday, 25th August, 2019 Team Nigeria could only proud of one gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

Team Nigeria is competing in 22 sports and Taekwondo is the only sport that have garnered 6 medals out of the total 8 medals won so far.

Chinazum Nwosu in Taekwondo Women's -53kg won the only gold for the most populous African country, also in Men's -87kg Sunday Onofe picked bronze while Benjamin Okomu in Taekwondo Men's +87kg won the country a bronze medal.

In the same vein, in Women's -73kg Otuadinma Uzoa won bronze as Anyanacho Elizabeth and Vivian Ndum completed the medals with bronze medal each in women's -67kg and -62kg respectively.

In table tennis, Team Nigeria won two silver medals, one each from men's and women's teams.

In women's team led by Olympian Funke Oshonaike with Edin Effiong, Cecelia Akpan, Ajoke Ojomu and Fatima Bello lost to Team Egypt in final to pick bronze medal on Friday.

Also in table tennis, men's team led by the Nigeria's 2019 African Games athletes captain, Segun Toriola alongside Aruna Quadri, Jide Omotayo, Bode Abiodun and Taiwo Mati picked silver medal in men's table tennis team.

As Team Nigeria progresses in many sports, BSN Sports will report medals update as the West African country win medals to move up the ladder of medals tables.
