Rivers Angels Vs Nasarawa Amazon 2019 Aiteo Cup Final Preview
By Admin
In a repeat of the 2013 final, Rivers Angels will take on Nasarawa Amazons in Kaduna with a record fourth consecutive AITEO Cup title up for grabs
Wednesday final will be played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and the chance for both teams to begin the season with a trophy.
CHASING HISTORY AGAIN
Rivers Angels are through to the AITEO Cup final for a fourth time in a row, a feat they have recorded in the past, having won it five times consecutively in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 and this time around are on the verge of doing it again four times consecutively, having won again in 2016, 2017, 2018 and now in the finals.
Clearly, no women club side have won the AITEO Cup more than Rivers Angels, and a win for them in Kaduna will make it nine times while Nasarawa Amazons will be looking forward to win it for the second time in their history with their only success coming in 2005 when they defeated Bayelsa Queens in the final.
EDWIN OKON AND CHRISTOPHER DANJUMA TAKE FRIENDSHIP AND RIVALRY INTO BATTLE
Arguably the biggest managerial rivalry in the Nigeria Women Football League. Rivers Angels manager and Nasarawa Amazons manager worked together as Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Super Falcons respectively between 2013 to 2015 where the closeness and respect grew strongly as the Nasarawa Amazons Coach later took over when Edwin Okon was sacked after the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.
Sunday's showdown at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna will see the two teams having their eyes only on the trophy. Christopher Danjuma is more charismatic and quotable between the two but not as successful as Edwin Okon at club level and the AITEO Cup final on Sunday is another avenue for both managers to show supremacy over themselves.
THE VENUE
Rather surprisingly, this is only the first time that the women's final will be played in Kaduna. However, the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna is wearing a new look and will definitely be a perfect ground for the women's final.
