Rohr Technical Deficiency May Cost Nigeria AFCON Title, World Cup Ticket. By Omolagba Oluwayemi Nigeria might have picked the ticket for the final qualifying rounds for the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers but the truth is, the country is not ready yet for the challenges ahead. With the arrays of Super Stars available to Gernot Rohr, it is a pity that the Franco-German tactician still do not know how to grind results even having spent 5 years working in Nigeria. Watching the Super Eagles play yesterday, one cannot deduced the formation and playing pattern adopted by Gernot Rohr. When the ball gets to Maduka Okoye's hands, he gives to the nearest defender and after stringing one or two pases together, they launch the ball forward like a missile leaving the forwards with a lot of work to do. Victor Osimhen was seen running the length and breath of the field yesterday, a performance which could have gotten him more than a goal but in a team that lacks cohesion, it is impossible to sustain such momentum till the end. Moses Simon who is dishing out assists to his teammates over there in Nantes was a shadow of himself all because of the tactical nativity of a certain Gernot Rohr. The midfield was a shadow of what a Nigerian National team midfield should be and all that was seen the urgency to get the ball across the Victor Osimhen the moment the ball gets to their feet. No connectivity between the defense to the middle of the park which should have led to a proper transitioning play to the attack, again you ask what playing pattern did the Nigerian team adopted. An early goal scored could down the morale of any side but the response from Cape Verde was fantastic as they did not allow the pressure of the early mistake get into their head, instead they responded in a likely manner a team with a good tactician should and got the equaliser and from there they settled well into the game, dictating the pace. In the second half, one could see their game plans as they patiently knock the ball around looking for a way to open up the shaky Super Eagles defense but luck wasn't on their side. When they attack, they do with purpose and everytime they on the move, the Nigerian fans are always on the edge of their seats as they don't know what would happen next. Their substitutions was top notch and hadn't not been for the injury to Moses Simon, it's obvious Gernot Rohr wasn't ready to make any changes even with the players seemingly not understanding what was going on again. At some points, the fans were yelling at Gernot Rohr to make substitutions but the man seems adamant and football fans were wondering if he wants to keep the sub for the next game but then again they realized it doesn't work that way and their might not even be a next game for us in the qualifying series. It was very obvious yesterday, Rohr had the Arsenal but doesn't know how to utilize them. He has the gun but doesn't know where the trigger is let alone know how to shoot. After the game, from the media stand, down to the VIP seats, all the fans kept yelling was the players are good but the team lacks a good coach. If truly Nigeria wants to get on the plane to Qatar come next year then Rohr should not be on the bench for the next qualifying round. If the country wants to see the best of Nigeria players who kept putting up grade A performances week in and out for their clubs at the national team level then a man like Rohr should not be leading the team at this point. The individual brilliance of the players will at a point in time fail if there is no proper tactics to compliment their efforts. These crop of players are good but Nigerians will soon forget about how good they are for their club sides if they fail produce results. As an advice to the NFF board they shouldn't allow it get to the stage where the fans will turn against their players because of one man who doesn't know how to do his job. Nigeria has had coaches who delivered in time past but were still shown the exit door when things weren't going well so for no reason should Rohr whose major trophy won since he took charge years ago was a third place finish and also qualifying Nigeria to major events with a game to spare. Again if Pinnick and his team wants the best for Nigeria football lovers, this is the best time to shut the door against Gernot Rohr and give the mantle of the leadership of the national team to a capable hand either locally or from abroad.
