Rohr writes off Nigeria pitches, urges Minister to work on Abuja stadium
By Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria's Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has condemned Nigeria pitches, saying they are substandard compared to what is obtainable in order climes.
Speaking from his base in France, the Franco-German gaffer believed a country like Nigeria should have decent pitches to play international matches.
“One of my biggest problems for the Super Eagles is that we don’t have a single quality pitch, in the whole of Nigeria, for my team to play matches on. This is not acceptable for a country of Nigeria’s level.
“I am hoping that Sunday Dare, Nigeria’s new Sports Minister, will ensure that the main pitch and practice pitches of the Abuja National Stadium will be restored, as soon as possible. This will help my team a lot.
“You saw the quality of pitches that the Super Eagles played on, at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt . This should be the standard for Nigeria.
"The pitches we currently play on, in Nigeria, are not good enough," he concluded.
